5 Quick Tips for a Sparkling Kitchen
The kitchen is the hardest-working room in your home, and the one that shows dirt the fastest. Our cleaning crews in Plano and North Dallas clean dozens of kitchens every week. These are the five habits and tricks we see make the biggest difference.
1. Clean top to bottom, dry to wet
Start with the highest surfaces: tops of cabinets, the range hood and light fixtures. Then wipe counters and finish with the floor. Dust and crumbs fall down, so cleaning in this order means you only clean each surface once. It's the same order our teams follow on every visit.
2. Let the degreaser do the work
Grease on the backsplash, stovetop and range hood comes off much easier if you spray it and wait two or three minutes before wiping. Scrubbing right away just smears it around. For range hood filters, soak them in hot water with a little dish soap and baking soda, then rinse.
3. Beat hard-water spots on the faucet
North Texas water is hard, and it leaves white crust around faucets and in the sink. Wrap the faucet base in a paper towel soaked in white vinegar for 15 minutes, then wipe and dry. Drying the sink and faucet after each use keeps the spots from coming back. (Skip vinegar on natural stone like marble.)
4. Wipe stainless steel with the grain
Streaky stainless appliances are a common complaint. Use a microfiber cloth with a little dish soap and warm water, wipe in the direction of the grain, then buff dry with a second clean cloth. A drop of mineral oil on the dry cloth adds shine and helps hide fingerprints.
5. Do a 10-minute nightly reset
Load the dishwasher, wipe the counters and stovetop, take out any full trash, and do a quick sweep. Ten minutes a night keeps the kitchen from turning into a weekend project.
